1 Introduction & Course Goals
This is an introductory course to statistics. It will cover the descriptive statistical methods, random variables, the probability concepts and distributions, sampling distributions, and estimation. Topics include graphical methods for presenting data, measures of central tendency, dispersion, and a host of other statistical topics. The student is expected to spend time studying to get a good grasp on the main statistical concepts, and practice by solving problems. This will enable him/her to be a practitioner or to have a foundation for more advanced courses.

2. Specific Objectives

Introduce students to the different fundamental concepts of statistics.
By the end of the course students will be able to analyze simple data and formulate some business comments.
Build skills in doing some data analysis using computer packages.

Orientation, Introduction to Statistics; data and statistics Ch. 1 (section: 1.1-1.5).
Descriptive Statistics: Tabular and Graphical Methods, Ch. 2. (section: 2.1; 2.2; 2.4)
Descriptive Statistics: Numerical Methods, Ch. 3 (section: 3.1-33; 3.5; 3.6)
Exam 1
Introduction to Probability, Ch. 4 (section: 4.1-4.5)
Discrete Probability Distributions, Ch. 5 (section: 5.1-5.5)
Continuous probability Distributions, Ch. 6 (section: 6.1-6.4)
Exam 2
Sampling and Sampling Distributions, Ch. 7 (sectyion 7.1-7.6)
Interval Estimation, Ch. 8 (section: 8.1-8.4)

5 Semester's home work

There will be a number of computer cases assignments (schedule) (done by team of 4 at maximum and 3 at minimum) assignments (schedule). Each student is expected to work on solving these cases, and to learn how to use the Excel spreadsheet. All cases will be due at the date shown. Each team should submit only one copy during the class hours not before and not after. To avoid losing points, each copy should be well identified by the name of each student, student Number, list class number and section number.

6 Grading Policy

Semester's Work (assignments, quizzes, cases, labs and class participation)	20 %
Midterm Exams	50 %
Final Exam (Comprehensive)	30 %
Total	100%

The Mid-term and final exams will be closed book and notes. You will be allowed to bring in a 1-2 formula pages to the exams. The Final Exam will be comprehensive.

7 Attendance Rule

As per the university rules, If a student is absent for 6 classes or more, he / she will get WF grade in the course.
If you miss a quiz or an exam, there will be no make up unless there is a valid excuse, like proven medical condition. In this case, a make up should be scheduled within the next 48 h.
Missing an exam because there is another exam at the same day is not an excuse.
For the homework, the penalty is 20% for one day late.
Bring your own calculator and supplies to the exam. No borrowing will be allowed.
The course instructor reserve the right to modify the syllabus in any way they may feel necessary during the semester.
